How to Change the Battery in a Honeywell Thermostat

With the latest surge in hot temperatures, A/C issues can be a problem. A common issue, for any season, is a faulty thermostat. Maintaining a healthy and comfortable temperature in your home is important, and small problem like this one can cause big emergencies.

Luckily, if your Honeywell thermostat suddenly stops working, the solution may be quite simple: the battery may be old. Not sure how to replace it? No need to worry. This tutorial will guide you through the process of changing a Honeywell thermostat battery in a few simple steps.

What you’ll need:

  • Two AAA batteries

Step 1: Remove the battery compartment

The battery compartment on a Honeywell thermostat is located on the side of the device. To remove it, first push the tab on the top of the thermostat. Then pull it to remove the compartment — it should slide right out.

Step 2: Remove and dispose of the old batteries

The battery compartment should contain two AAA batteries. Since either battery (or both) may be the culprit to your problem, be sure to remove them both.

Step 3: Insert the new batteries into the housing

Insert the new batteries, while noting the directions of the positive and negative sides.

Step 4: Replace the battery compartment

Now that the battery compartment has the new batteries, slide the compartment back into the thermostat. This time, insert it bottom first. Then push and snap into place.

Done!

You’re done! After you have installed the new batteries, your Honeywell thermostat should turn back on momentarily. Now you can get back to enjoying the ideal temperature of your home.
